meet the maker: Your Super

We all know we’re supposed to eat healthy, exercise, get enough sleep etc., but sometimes managing all of that can be hard. For us too. As you know from our recipes, we love a balance of things that are healthy with a side of indulgence now and then. We also love to find things that make our life better and easier, and Your Super is just that for us.
Your Super was started back in 2015 when Michael Kuech was diagnosed with cancer at the young age of 24. His partner Kristel de Groot quickly began looking for ways to boost his immune system to make him feel better. She grabbed every healthy thing she could find from wheatgrass to chia seeds to spirulina and begin on a mission. Her aunt Ellen, an orthonutritionst, offered her suggestions on what vitamins and minerals the body needs each day, in addition to what it needs to heal. From there, Kristel began mixing. And the result was 7 unique blends, each specific to a health benefit.
What we really love about these products is that each superfood mix has the total convenience of a supplement, with all the nutrients of natural whole foods. The mixes are all USDA Certified Organic, non-GMO verified, 100% plant-based, gluten-free with no nuts, soy, dairy, sweeteners, additives or preservatives, and come in simple, eco-friendly cans. They also have a 100% transparent supply chain, ensuring that they know where every ingredient comes from. And even better is their one-to-one giving back program with Action Against Hunger. For every mix sold, they donate one packet of life-saving food to children suffering from severe acute malnutrition.
We love everything about these products, but most importantly, we love how we feel using them. In addition to having a lot more energy, we’ve also done the Detox. Trust us, it doesn’t even feel like a Detox. No starvation, no feeling hungry, just an overall reset for your body. Some we know even lost 5+ pounds in the 5 days during it. And with all of the added nutritional benefits that go along with each blend, we’ve found them really easy to weave into our daily life.
Here’s a few ways we use our mixes every day:
We love starting every morning with Super Green in water (you’ll definitely want a bottle with a blender ball for best mixing). Unlike other brands we’ve tried, this one tastes great and is easy to drink.
We love adding Forever Beautiful and Skinny Protein right into our morning smoothie. Our current favorite smoothie is a handful of fresh kale, 1 frozen banana, some mixed frozen berries, and water. Blend it up and enjoy!
A sprinkle of Super Green right over a lunchtime salad is also a great way to get another dose of nutrients with our meal. See the recipe for our super green salad with cilantro-lime dressing recipe below.
For snacking (because we all love snacks), the Chocolate Lover is a great substitute for just about anywhere you use cocoa powder. We especially love it in this chunky chocolately granola recipe.

super green salad with cilantro-lime dressing
We love the mix of crunchy nuts and seeds with the creamy avocado but really anything goes in this salad so make it your own. Make the dressing right before serving.
1/2 bunch fresh cilantro (with stems), washed and dried
1 tablespoon Super Green
1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup, optional
Juice from 1 lime
3-4 tablespoons avocado oil
Kosher salt, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Sunflower seeds, to taste
Pumpkin seeds, to taste
Chopped almonds, to taste
Alfalfa sprouts, to taste
Fresh greens, washed and dried
Make dressing. In a food processor, add cilantro, super green mix, vinegar, mustard, honey or maple syrup (If using), lime juice, 3 tablespoons oil, and season with salt and pepper. Pulse until smooth, scraping down sides of bowl as needed. Taste and adjust as desired.
Cut avocado in half and remove and discard pit. Scoop out flesh and dice.
Place greens, avocado, seeds, nuts, and sprouts in a bowl. Drizzle with enough dressing to lightly coat, gently toss, and serve immediately.
