If you are intimidated by making your own ice cream, give this simple recipe a try. The result is a fluffy, tart, and creamy dessert ideal for the hottest of summer days.
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon finely grated orange zest
1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup beach plum juice (see recipe)
1-2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
3/4 cup heavy cream
- Place all ingredients except cream in bowl of a food processor and process until sugar is dissolved, about 1 minute. Transfer to a mixing bowl and whisk in cream. Transfer to refrigerator and chill for 1 hour.
- After mixture has chilled, pour into an ice cream maker and process until it reaches consistency of soft-serve ice cream. Serve directly from ice cream maker or transfer to a lidded container and freeze until ready to serve.
Makes approximately 4 cups.
