Our new, favorite take on the classic.

1 1/2 ounces tequila, or to taste
3 ounces fresh grapefruit juice (about 1/2 grapefruit)
1/2 ounce agave syrup, or to taste
Salt, for rim
1 grapefruit peel or wedge, for garnish, optional

  1. Fill a shaker with ice. Add tequila, grapefruit juice, and agave syrup and shake until chilled.
  2. Pour some salt onto a plate. Rub rim of a short glass with half of grapefruit and dip rim evenly in salt, coating entire rim of glass. Set aside.
  3. Fill prepared glass with ice. Strain mixture into glass and garnish as desired.
