Hints of ginger and lemon play supporting roles to your favorite bourbon in this fresh yet warming cocktail, perfect for a cold winter night.
Ginger Simple Syrup
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 2-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and chopped
2 ounces bourbon, or to taste
1 ounce fresh lemon juice
1/2 ounce ginger simple syrup
- Make ginger simple syrup. Place water, sugar, and ginger in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer until sugar has dissolved, about 10 minutes. Allow syrup to cool to room temperature. Remove ginger, cover, and chill until ready to serve.
- To serve, fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add bourbon, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Shake until well blended.
- Place additional ice in a serving glass. Strain mixture into glass and serve.
cook’s note: The simple syrup makes enough for at least 12 cocktails.
